Page 6 of White Knuckles (Lost Kings MC 7)
âBullshit,â Z snaps. âSomeone down there has to know.â
âItâs a precarious situation,â Rock reminds us.
No shit. Even though itâs not us doing the asking. Any Lost King poking around in Viper business, when weâre responsible for taking their local charter down, is hazardous.
âIâm thinking maybe now isnât the time for me to take off.â
He leans back and watches me for a minute before speaking. âGo. You two need it. We should back off. Otherwise weâll push Ransom so deep underground weâll never find him.â
I know Rockâs right, but it still feels like a shitty excuse to leave when I should be here helping.
âI can make someââ
âNo,â he says, cutting me off. âLocoâs crew is on it. Swayâ¦our guys. Weâll find that coward.â
âTeller needs to be the one to finish him.â
âIâll do everything I can to make that happen.â Rockâs gaze swings to Z. âHow about you? Find what you needed on the road?â
âNot really.â
âYou stickinâ around?â
âYeah. You know I canât stay away from you long, prez.â He smirks and Rock leans over to punch his arm.
âDex does a good job at Crystal Ball, but he keeps bitching that things run smoother when youâre there.â
âAw, prez, heâs like the stripper whisperer.â I fall back against my chair, laughing at my own joke.
Z chuckles, too, not annoyed at my joke or embarrassed by his special skill set. âI know how to keep the ladies in line.â
After we finish mocking Z, he pins Rock with a serious stare. âWhere we at with the land here?â
âGot plenty. Why?â
âWas thinkinâ of building a small cabin. Maybe out past the stone theater.â
Now, this is news. âWhy? Youâre like the frat party director âround here.â
He cuts a more serious glance my way. âGettinâ old. You should understand.â
âWhatever you want, Z. Weâll work it out,â Rock assures him.
âThanks.â He nods at the door. âBetter go out there and see whatâs going down.â
After Z leaves, Rock turns my way.
I raise an eyebrow.
âWhat?â Rock asks, reading the question on my face. âHe doesnât need a wife to wanna build a place of his own.â
âDidnât say he did. Just seemed to come out of nowhere.â
âReally? Heâs been fucked for a while.â
I shrug. Not because I donât care about whatever Zâs going through, but because I figure if he wants to share, he will. Until then itâs useless to sit around guessing.
âAnything else, prez?â
âNo.â
We finally leave the table and step into the living room. Thereâs a party tonight, but it hasnât quite gotten started.
Hopeâs on the couch, waiting for Rock I assume. She jumps up when she sees us and hurries over.
âI was starting to wonder if Wrath was in trouble,â she teases.
Rock flashes a smile but doesnât explain what took us so long. Something Hope seems to accept without a thought.
A warm body I recognize by feel alone molds to my back and a soft arm wraps around my middle. I reach behind me, curling my arm around my girl, and pull her forward. âHey, handsome,â Trinity says in a low voice.
Before I answer, I notice the catalogue in her hand. More wedding tuxes. âNo,â I grumble.
Her mouth pulls down into her adorable pout.
âItâs too late anyway. Theyâll never be able to find something in my size.â
âEven Rock wore a suit to his wedding,â she protests.
Rock takes a step back, holding his hands up. âDonât drag me into this.â
âButââ Trinity starts.
âTell me what color dress youâre wearing, and Iâll make sure my shorts match.â
Her mouth twists. âNo.â
My hand slips and I give her ass a slight squeeze. âYouâve talked me into everything else. Have some mercy on me. I canât do the tux.â
âFine.â She leans up and kisses my cheek. âI need to check something in the kitchen. Be right back.â
After she clears the room, I turn to Hope. âYou goinâ with us tomorrow?â
âOf course.â
I lower my voice. âIf I tell you something, promise not to tell Trin?â
âMaybe.â
I stare at her until she huffs. âOkay.â
âIâm not wearing shorts.â
âEw. You better not go pant-less.â
âYou wish.â
Next to her, Rock chuckles. I donât have a chance to explain my plan, because Trinity returns to the living room. Her eyes narrow as she takes the three of us in. âWhat?â
Hope easily launches into pesky bridesmaid role, reaching up and tugging on my beard.
âIs this staying?â she asks Trinity who laughs.
âI like it,â Trinity says, patting the side of my face.
Hope gives me a critical look. âReally? It doesnât give you beard burn?â She turns and runs her hand over Rockâs cheek. âItâs always scratchy when he grows one.â
I lean down and rub my cheek against Trinityâs until she laughs. âIf you use it right, itâs a sensation enhancer during certain activities.â I raise an eyebrow at Hope until my meaning sinks in.
âOh.â She tilts her head at Rock. âMaybe you should try again.â
âWhatever gets my face between your legs, baby doll.â
Shock colors Hopeâs cheeks pink but she shakes with laughter, while next to me, Trinity moans in disgust.
A little silliness with the girls is a good way to purge the seriousness that followed us out of church. Even Rock lightens up and says theyâre planning to stick around for the party, something I donât think the two of them have done since they moved out of the clubhouse.
âI told Murphy they could have the house for a few hours,â Hope explains.
âIs that why weâre over here?â Rock asks.
âWellââ
âDoesnât seem like they can have much fun with a teething baby at home,â I point out.
Hope chuckles. âSheâs not that bad.â
âUhââ Rock starts and Hope smacks his chest.
âSheâs not.â
Trinity holds up her hands. âI have no intention of finding out.â
âA-fuckin-men,â I agree.
Hope chuckles but doesnât question either of us, which I appreciate. Every other woman I come into contact with lately has asked when Trin and I plan to have kids. As if getting married isnât enough, now we have to spit out babies to be legit or something.
Fuck that.
âWhatâs wrong?â Trin asks.
I squeeze her a little tighter. âNothing.â
CHAPTER FIVE
Nine days before the weddingâ¦
âHoly hell, you werenât kidding about the place burning to the ground.â Hope gasps and cranes her neck to stare at the site where Wyatt and I were supposed to be married.
âRight? Wow. Wyatt, did you see it?â
âI saw,â he answers without taking his eyes off the road.
âPull into Painterâs Pavilion. Thatâs where weâre supposed to meet him.â
Hope jumps out of the truck first. The big wedding binder stayed home, but sheâs clutching her blue bridesmaid notebook tightâIâve taught her well.
âHi, Iâm Trinity.â I hold out my hand for the park ranger. He takes it while staring at me, like heâs waiting for me to bite.
He walks us around the site, and I donât want to say it out loud, but this is so much better than where we were going to get married.
âMost importantly, your party has to be cleaned up and out of here by four p.m.â
âFour?â Wyatt asks, shooting me a look.
âI thought we could be here until sunset?â I ask.
âNope. I need this place picke
d up, and I mean spotless, by four. No rice-throwing, confetti-throwing orââ
âNo throwing of any material, sir, we get it,â Hope assures him.
I cough-snicker into my hand.
âMusic has to be at a reasonable level that does not interfere with other park activities.â
âNo problem there,â Hope says, scribbling in her notebook.
âNo alcohol allowed in the park, either. Anyone who gets caught with alcohol will be tossed out.â
Wrath gives me a look, like maybe we should have paid more attention to the fine print when we decided to have the wedding here. I lift my shoulders. Too late now.
After a few more warnings, he steps back to let the three of us wander over the grounds. âThis is so much better, Trin,â Hope gushes. âYou can either get married down here, with that gorgeous view behind youâ¦â She throws her arms out wide, indicating the concrete deck overlooking the mountains and valley, âor, if heaven forbidââshe crosses her fingers and stares up at the sky, making Wrath chuckleââit rains, we can do it in the gazebo.â
âWe can have the prospects set up a tent,â Wyatt suggests. He glances around for the park manager. âIs a fuckinâ tent allowed?â
The guy doesnât even bristle at Wyattâs coarse language. âA tent will require an additional deposit. And itââ
âMust be removed by four, got it,â Hope says. âOh, wow. The bathroom building is brand new, Trin. Thatâs good. The old ones were worse than outhouses.â
The park manager glares at her, but Hope either doesnât care or is oblivious. Iâm guessing the second one.
âHow long is the actual wedding part going to be?â I ask Hope while Trinity wanders around snapping pictures.
She has the nerve to roll her eyes. âAs long as it needs to be.â
âYouâre frustrating, you know that?â
âItâs why Iâm so much fun.â She all but sticks her tongue out at me.
âMaybe for Rock.â I turn, pretending to look around the place. âWhere is he, anyway?â
âHome. He didnât need to be here for this. His only job is getting you here on time.â
âOh, Iâll be here on time.â
She tilts her head to the side. âYouâre really looking forward to this, arenât you?â
âYeah. Why?â
Her shoulders lift. âI donât know. When I met youâ¦I never would haveâ¦you knowââ
âPictured me settling down?â
âI guess.â
âI didnât want to back then.â
âAnd now?â
âNow what?â
She huffs out an annoyed breath. âI love Trinity. Like a sister.â
âOh. Is this your version of a âhurt my friend and Iâll kill youâ speech?â
âWell, now you took all the fun out of it.â
I canât hold in my laughter any longer. âYouâre a brave little spitfire.â I slip an arm around her shoulders. âAll I want to do is take care of Trinity and have her take care of me.â
âBoy, is she getting the raw end of that deal.â
When I finish laughing, she says a little quieter, âShe told me about the photography studio youâre planning to buy her. Thatâs really thoughtful.â
Knowing Trinity was so excited about the studio, she already gushed to Hope about it is a nice reassurance. âThanks.â
âOh, God,â Trinity shouts. âWhat are you two conspiring about?â Her voice lowers as she reaches us. âHeâs not wearing a kilt to the wedding, is he, Hope?â
Hope bursts out laughing and pulls away from me. âGod, I hope not.â She makes a skirt-lifting motion. âThey donât wear underwear under those things. No one needs a peek of that.â
âHey.â My protest is muffled by my own laughter. âYouâd be lucky to see the good stuff.â
She snort-laughs even harder.
Shaking her head, Trinity wraps her hand around Hopeâs arm and drags her away. âLetâs get some measurements,â she says, gesturing to a patch of concrete.
Iâd help, but I have no idea what theyâre trying to accomplish, so I watch them instead. When Trinity seems satisfied, she rolls up her tape measure and flips me a thumbs up.
Finally.
CHAPTER SIX
âWeâre leaving in ten.â
Turning, I find Wrath filling the doorway with an eager expression in place. He looks so happy, I canât even tease him for telling me instead of asking. âEager much?â
âYup. Our cabin in the woods is waiting.â
âIsnât that a horror movie?â
His mouth curls into a smirk as he moves across the room and pulls me out of my chair, tucking me tight against the front of his body. He palms my ass then gives it a smack. âDonât be a wiseass.â
It feels so good to be pressed up against him, I wonât even complain that he interrupted some work I was trying to finish before we leave.
Instead, my arms loop around his neck. Knowing what Iâm after, he lifts me up and I wrap my legs around his hips.
âWhat do you say?â he asks.
âI go where you go, fiancé.â
âFuck, I love hearing you call me that. Husbandâs gonna be even better.â
My lips find their way to his forehead, pressing a soft kiss there before traveling to his mouth, where I enjoy a smooth, sensual slide of our lips meeting.
âI love you, Wyatt,â I murmur before opening my eyes.
âLove you, too, angel,â he says, setting me down. He cocks his head. âYou good with the park situation now?â
Excitement hums through my veins. âOhmygod, yes. I love the new space even more. Itâs so much nicer. The viewâs better on that side of the parkââ
His lips cover mine, cutting me off before I get carried away. When he pulls back, heâs studying me with seriousness. âI love how excited you are about our wedding.â
Not for the first time, Iâm struck by Wyattâs sweetness. Even if he doesnât show much enthusiasm about little wedding detailsâlike the tiny cobalt-blue glass vases I found on sale and plan to use as centerpiecesâheâs never made me feel silly about any of it. âThank you for going up there with me.â
âI wouldnât have missed it.â His lips twitch. âEspecially the part where Hope threatened to kill me if I donât treat you right.â
Hope can be reckless or ballsyâdepending on your point of viewâbut even I have a hard time picturing her saying that to Wyatt. âShe did not.â
âNah, but thatâs what she meant.â
âSo thatâs what you two were talking about?â Their evolving friendshipâfor lack of a better wordânever stops amusing me.
He leans down and presses another kiss against my lips. âYes. And that you told her about the studio.â
âOh. Was that okay?â
âYes. Iâm happy you like it.â Laced with his words is a hint of relief.
âI love it.â I lean in, rubbing my body against him. âI guess I should have done a better job of showing you how much.â
I get a crisp smack on my ass. âYouâll thank me by putting it to good use.â He looks over my shoulder. âAnd getting your ass in gear. We still have to stop for groceries and stuff. Are you ready?â
âAlmost.â
âGood. I donât want you worrying about anything except all the dirty things Iâm going to do to you.â He nods at my computer. âYou all set for a few days?â
âLet me finish sending a few emails. Then yes. Heidi has all my other stuff, so sheâll be working on that while weâre gone.â
He glances around the room, spying my bag on the bed. âDonât bother bringing clothes, you wonât need them.â
âOh really?â
âWell, maybe something to wear in the kitchen so you donât burn any important bits.â
I laugh so hard, I end up falling back on the bed. âSo this is really more of a vacation for you? Sex and being waited on hand and foot?â
âI told you no other woman
would put up with me.â He snatches my hand and yanks me closer. âIâll take you out to dinner. Not sure whatâs up there, but weâll find something. We can go hiking, too. Bring your camera.â
âI was only kidding. Sex and food work for me.â
He buries his face against my neck, playfully growling, biting, and licking my skin until I laugh and push him away. âThatâs why youâre the perfect woman.â
We spend a few more minutes kissing, but before we get carried away, Wyatt pulls back. All business again.
âItâs too chilly to take the bike that far.â He gestures to my bag again. âBring whatever you want, we have room in the truck.â
When my man said ten minutes, he meant it. I rush through my last-minute emails. My bags are ready to go. I even remembered to pack extra pillowsâjust in case. Wyatt, on the other hand, seems to have a lot more stuff than a simple three-day trip requires.
âWhatâs all that?â
His mouth quirks into a sensually-devilish smile. âSupplies.â
âThis place has heat and running water, right? Iâm not into outhouses and candles.â
âNot those kind of supplies.â
I have no idea what to make of that. But my skin tingles, imagining all the possibilities.
While weâre outside packing up the truck, Murphy stops over. âHeading out?â
Instead of answering the question, Wyatt has one of his own. âWhy arenât you down at Furious?â
âIâm on my way now.â
Wyatt narrows his eyes. âYou got this, right?â
Normally, Murphy would bristle at being questioned like that, but he seems to take his new role at the gym seriously. âYes, donât worry about anything. Iâll be there until closing tonight. Twitch called out, but Dylan said heâd stay.â
âMake sure pretty boy gets the cleaning done. Little fucker doesnât like gettinâ his hands dirty.â
Murphy bursts out laughing. âRight? You noticed that, too?â
âFuck yeah, I did.â
âHeâs been real good at gettinâ people to sign up for classes and stuff, so donât be too hard on him,â Murphy says.
