Page 46 of Tattered on My Sleeve (Lost Kings MC 4)
âYeah. Knifed him and got away, but I gottaââ
âI understand. Iâd do the same. I know Trin from way back. Sheâs a good girl. Glad sheâs with someone like you now.â
âAw, shit. I remember Trinity from when she was just a lilâ kid,â Chaser adds.
Not really sure what to say to that, I just nod.
Stump shakes my hand. âThat shit ainât right. You let us know if you guys need support.â
âWill do.â
Without the concern of a crapton of weed in the back of the car in case we get pulled over, Z presses the pedal to the floor.
Rock meets me at the door with a hug. âI spoke to Wrath. Guys are all coming in. You okay?â
Pulling out of his embrace, I nod. âYeah.â
All softness vanishes and President Rock is in charge. âWhile weâre waiting for Wrath to get here, tell me what went down,â he barks at me as he leads me into the war room. Tellerâs waiting in a seat on the other side of the table, but he gets up and gives me a hug.
Holding me at armâs length, he peers into my eyes. âYou okay?â
I nod and he releases me.
Rock points at Wrathâs chair and has me sit.
âSorry, youâre going to end up going over this more than once, sweetheart,â Rock apologizes.
Itâs okay. I tell him word for word everything I can remember.
âThis is over me not letting them dip into our territory. Are they fucking nuts?â Rock fumes.
âWeâre gonna have to call some brothers in to help keep Crystal Ball locked down,â Teller mutters.
âYeah, Iâll have Z do it when he gets in. Where the fuck is Murphy?â
âDonât know, Prez. I texted him a bunch. Got no answer yet.â
âFuck, thatâs all we need.â
My head hurts from where I got slammed against the car. Listening to them go back and forth lulls me into a sleep like state. Sometime later, Iâm aware of Rock picking me up and laying me down on the leather couch in the back of the war room. A blanket floats over me and I drift out.
Angry voices shake me from sleep a little while later. The guys are assembling around the table. Murphyâs here and he smiles at me. Wrath and Zâs spots are still empty. My bladder insists I get the fuck up, so I toss off the blanket.
âYou okay, Trin?â Rock calls.
Feeling fuzzy, I nod. âYeah. Gonna run to the bathroom.â
Run is overly optimistic. What I do resembles lurching. Instead of using the communal bathroom, I go into my room to clean up. Brushing my teeth unzombifies me a bit, but Iâm still exhausted.
Walking back to the war room, I hear car doors slamming outside. I quicken my pace just as the doorâs thrown open and Wrath storms in. Fierce is the only way to explain his expression. I choke out a startled gasp drawing his attention to me.
âAngel.â In three quick strides he crosses the room, and sweeps me into his arms. Only then do the tears start falling.
Every sob that wracks my girlâs body sends a shiver of rage through me. This is three years ago all over again. Fucking Vipers going after women.
This time, they all fucking die.
Trinity has her arms looped around my neck, face buried against my shoulder, legs wrapped around my waist. Iâve got my arms banded around her keeping her tight to me, one hand rubbing her back.
âYouâre okay, baby. I got you. You did good. Iâm so proud of you,â I keep whispering in her ear.
Rock and Z are standing in the doorway to the war room looking like theyâve just spotted an alien spaceship in the living room. I pause to flip them off, then go back to calming my girl down.
Every patched brother is at the table as I carry Trinity in and drop into my seat. She adjusts, so her legs are draped over my lap and sheâs leaning against me. Sheâs stopped crying, but sheâs definitely still close to the edge. Exhaustion dogs me, but I shake it off.
Rock gives me the story. Iâd like to hear it from Trinityâs mouth, but sheâs still silent and I donât want to push her. My brothers are still staring at us like they canât believe what theyâre seeing. Fucking hell, canât we concentrate on the war thatâs breathing down our necks instead of my love life?
âHe said he remembered me from the night of the fight,â Trinity says suddenly.
âGood. Good Trin,â Rock reassures her. âAnything else you remember?â
âUh, he called Wrath a bandeho.â
Bricks snorts at that. âWas it a pendejo, sweetheart?â
âYeah.â
My eyebrows draw down. âWhat the fuck is that?â
Bricks shrugs. âDepends where the fucker is from. Could be anything from jackass to coward.â
I grind my teeth.
Lowering my voice, I ask her the question Iâve been dreading the most since I first got her phone call. âHe touch you anywhere else, baby?â
She squeezes her eyes tight, her lip quivers, giving me all the answer I need. White spots of rage dot my vision.
âAny other words Bricks can translate?â Rock asks with a smirk to lighten things.
âHe called you a cabrón.â
âAsshole,â Bricks clarifies.
âCalled me a puta, but I know what that means,â Trinity says with a laugh.
I know what that means too, and if my rage intensifies anymore Iâm going to disappear in a cloud of smoke.
Trinity sits up and faces the table. I keep my arms around her waist. I know we need to strategize, but all I want to do is take her to our room and make sure sheâs okay.
âIt all happened so fast, guys. I just knew I couldnât let him take me anywhere.â
âYou kicked ass, Trinny. Weâre all proud of you,â Teller says with a smile. Everyone agrees.
âAll right, Iâm going to give Ulfric a call. We gotta align ourselves with his pack again. Heâs been itching to take these fucks out for a while now, and Iâm sure this will push him over the edge.â Rock doesnât elaborate on why that might be. Trinity shifts in my lap.
âDo you want me to go, prez?â
Rock flicks a glance at my face, which Iâm sure is screaming No fucking way and shakes his head. âStay in case I need you to explain any of it to him.â
Rock uses a burner to call, but sets the phone on the table on speaker so we can all hear.
âWhat?â Ulfric snaps.
âItâs Rock.â
âWhat up, man?â
âGot a situation. Viper tried to grab one of our olâ ladies tonight as she was leaving class.â Rock gets that out right away, because he needs to establish that Trinity hadnât been violating our turf agreement with the Vipers.
âFuck me. You sure it was a Viper?â
âPretty sure. Said he recognized her as one of our girls.â
We all hear him cover the phone and call for his VP and sergeant-at-arms, then put us on speaker. âI got Merlin and Whisper on now too.â
âHis beef seemed to be about us not wanting to do business with him, but she didnât get a lot more info than that,â Rock continues.
âWhose olâ lady?â
âMine,â I answer. âWrath.â
âSince when you got an olâ lady?â Merlin snickers.
âWho?â Ulfric asks.
âTrinity.â
âFuck, she okay?â Merlin asks.
I find it interesting that Whisper didnât spill to his brothers why I gave him a split lip a couple weeks ago.
âIâm okay,â Trinity answers.
Thereâs a bit of silence as Iâm sure theyâre absorbing the fact that one, Trinity belongs to me now, and two, weâre letting her sit in on club business.
âTell me the story from the beginning,â Ulfric asks.
Trinity sits up, her voice much clearer and recounts everything.
âDamn girl. Your man trained you well. Nice job,â Merlin praises her.
Hearing her tell the whole story from the beginning leaves me shaking with murderous rage by the
time she finishes.
âNo fuckinâ way, prez. You ainât shuttinâ me out this time.â
Rock drags his hand through his hair. âIâm not. Thereâs nothing we can do right this second. We need to plan and organize before we take action. You need to take care of your girl.â He glances at Trinity, whoâs curled up in the couch staring at nothing.
âYouâre right.â
Rockâs eyes widen. Guess he figured Iâd be more stubborn about it. âI promise Iâll come get you as soon as Iâve got something.â
âOkay.â
He smiles and slaps me on the back. âTake care of your girl.â
Trin doesnât even look up as I approach.
âCome here, angel,â I whisper as I scoop her into my arms.
She clings to me, but remains silent.
I drop her carefully onto the bed and shut the door. She lies there while I strip her down. âCome on. Sit up for me,â I urge so I can slip a nightshirt over her head.
I take off my cut, shirt and shoes and slide into bed with her. Gathering her in my arms, I kiss her forehead.
âWyatt?â
âIâm here.â
âI love you.â
My heart stops.
She slicks her tongue over her bottom lip. âFor a second tonight, I thought I might die, and I was so angry with myself for not saying it to you. Only giving you that stupid noteâ¦Iâm sorry. Please donât think the only reason Iâm saying it nowââ
âPlease stop.â I yank my wallet out. Flipping it open, I pull out the note she gave me and hold it out to her. âItâs the sweetest thing anyoneâs ever given me. Keep it with me so I can look at it whenever I miss you.â
She gasps and cries even harder. âShhh.â I wrap her in my arms and after tucking her note away, toss my wallet on the night stand. âCome on, letâs get some rest.â
Iâve got a splitting headache when my phone wakes me up. Completely disoriented, I roll over and answer, noticing itâs one in the afternoon.
âWhat?â
âWe got a meet with Ransomâs crew in two hours.â
Scrubbing my hand over my face, I nod, then realize Rock canât see that over the phone. âYeah. Iâm up. Give me ten.â
âHopeâs downstairs, waiting for Trinity.â
Fuck. I can only imagine how well that conversation went. âThanks.â
Trin settles her hand on my back. âWyatt?â She crawls over until sheâs sitting on top of me. From the look on her face, sex is the last thing on her mind. âPlease donât do this.â
âWhat?â
âGo after them. I donât want to be the cause of another war betweenââ
Cupping her face between my hands, I stare into those honey eyes I love so much. âYou know thatâs not how things work, Trinity. They touched whatâs mine. They pay.â
âIâwe just got things figured out. I donât want anything to happen to you.â
Aw, shit. âI promise Iâll be careful. But you know this canât stand. What if they went after Hope next? You think sheâd get away like you did? Or Swan? Or even Heidi?â
Understanding flares in her eyes and she nods. She rolls to the side and sits up next to me.
âWell, with the mouth on her, theyâd probably give Heidi back right away,â she jokes.
Iâm happy sheâs able to laugh, considering how grave the situation is. âThatâs my girl.â
Following the noise in the hallway leads us to the dining room. Hoot, Birch and Swan are busy running back and forth taking care of things. Everyoneâs here.
As soon as she spots us, Hope runs over and pulls Trinity into a hug. Rock whistles to get everyoneâs attention.
âMembers and prospects to the war room. Everyone else stays on the property until further notice.â
I have just enough time for Swan to shove a cup of coffee and a sandwich in my hands before I follow everyone down the hall. Z catches up with me. âShe okay?â
âYeah. Better.â
âGood. Real fuckinâ proud of her for gettinâ away like that.â
My mouth quirks up. Me too.
Once weâre seated, Rock remains standing and takes a look at everyone. I spot two members from downstate and give them a nod.
âI know some of you have only gotten bits and pieces, so I want to make sure everyoneâs on the same page. Trinity, a long time asset to our club, and Wrathâs olâ lady, was attacked last night in downtown Ironworks.â
One of the guys from downstateâSteerâraises his hand. Rock cuts him off with a shake of his head. âOur agreement with the Vipers is, associates, family, olâ ladies are all allowed in their territory as long as theyâre not on club business or wearing club colors. Trinity was there for class and no way would she wear colors in their territory. She knows better.â
That seems to answer whatever Steer was planning to ask.
âTrinity managed to knife the guyââ Rockâs interrupted by the room breaking out into applause, shouts and whistles, which makes me chuckle.
âYeah, weâre all proud of Wrathâs girl,â Rock says with a smirk. Itâs probably an inappropriate time to notice, but I really like how Wrathâs girl sounds coming out of my presidentâs mouth in front of everyone.
âTrin was able to identify the guy as Viper based on what he said to her. Iâve spoken to one of our local allies, and theyâre ready to back us.â
I raise my hand quick and Rock nods at me. âWe also got an offer of support from the Devil Demons MC.â
âWhy ainât you callinâ either of them in?â Bullâalso from downstateâasks.
Now, my answer would be Shut the fuck up or Because I fucking said so, something along those lines.
âUntil we know what weâre dealing with, Iâd rather keep this in-house. No reason to use a blowtorch if a match works,â Rock explains as if heâs talking to a two-year-old.
Thatâs why heâs the prez, and Iâm not.
âI also needed to let the local guys know to keep a closer eye on their women.â
Bull nods as if that hadnât occurred to him. As his name suggests, heâs dumb as an ox. Thatâs why heâs the sergeant-at-arms downstate and not the prez.
âIâve been in touch with Ransom, the Viperâs current president. At first he denied any knowledge of the attack. Said he didnât authorize it and assured me there would have been no issue with Trinity being down there for class.â
This is all new information. Seems Rock was busy while I was napping the morning away.
âI got a call back from him a little while ago. They say they tracked the guy down. One of their hang-a-rounds, trying to impress the club. Theyâre holding him for us so we can verify. Now, I trust a Viper about as far as I can throw oneââ
âWhich ainât far, theyâre a bunch of fat fucks,â Z blurts out for a little comic relief. Rock shakes his head.
âThis could be a trap or they could be sincere. I want to go in heavy enough so they know weâre not fucking around but not so many guys it looks like a threat. I also need to make sure CB has adequate coverageâjust in case. And I need guys here at the house.â Rock levels a stern look at each of us. âThese are the assignments. Do not question me unless you have a very good reason. And it better be stellar, so think it through before opening your mouth.â
Iâm not worried at all. I know exactly where Iâm going.
âWrath, Z, Murphy, Bull, and Ravageâyou guys are with me. Weâll take two vehicles. Ravage, Bull, and Murphy will wait outside and stay alert for trouble.â
No one opens their mouth to complain.
âDex, Steer, and BirchâI want you at Crystal Ball. We open at four. I want you down there checking things over by three oâclock.â
âTeller, Axel, Bricks, Stash, Sparky, and HootâI want you at the house. Sparky and Stash, I need you two upstairs and alert.â
âGot it, boss,â Sparky assures him. For once he actually looks sober.
âBricks, you know the security set up, so
I want you on that.â
âYou got it.â
Rock addresses the guys staying at the house. âTrinâs got the combination to both gun safes and sheâs proficient with just about every weapon we have. Donât hesitate to have her help out.â Rock sighs and his mouth turns up in a tired smirk. âHopeâs been to the range, but sheâs not confident.â
I think Rockâs message is to use Hope as a last resort, which isnât quite fair. Cinderellaâs a good shotâonce you load the weapon for her and show her where to point it.
Teller pipes up. âHeidiâs good with a couple different weapons.â
Rock nods. âThatâs it. Weâre all clear?â Everyone says yes. Rock calls Bull and Steer up to the front of the table. âI think no matter how this goes down, Iâd rather have some extra muscle at CB this week, you two up for it?â
They donât have to think about it. Hanging out in our strip club all week isnât exactly a hardship for these guys. âHell, yeah.â
Rock slaps their shoulders. âThanks.â
Steer heads out with the CB crowd. Ravage joins us.
âPrez, you really want me outside?â Murphy asks.
âDid you miss something?â Rock asks.
Murphy shakes his head. Rockâs feeling more generous than I am, âcause I woulda kicked Murphyâs ass for that. Instead he slaps Murphy on the back and pulls him close. âVipers blow the three of us away, you and Teller will have to fight it out for my seat.â
Murphy finally understands why heâs being asked to wait outside. âSorry, prez.â He glances at me. âIâd take his job anyway.â
Yeah, Iâd like to kick Murphyâs ass on a regular basisâfor lots of reasonsâbut Iâd be comfortable with that. Not that it matters if Iâm dead.
Zâs jumping around ready to go. âI hope they give us a fuckinâ reason.â
âHey,â Rock snaps. âSimmer the fuck down. He looks over the five of us. âEveryone suited up?â
Shit. âI gotta run upstairs, Rock.â
He nods at me. âYeah. Meet us at the front door.â
Trinity intercepts me at the staircase. âEverything okay?â
âYeah, I gotta grab something from my room. Come with?â
She follows behind me and watches me get ready. âThey think they found the guy.â I press a cell phone into her hand. âCheck this later. I may send you a picture.â
