“I need to go shower.” He pulled away and brushed away some stray tears. His eyes were bloodshot, and his nose was tinted red.
“Okay. Do you need a ride?”
He shook his head.
“If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me.”
He nodded and took off in the direction of the stairs. I looked at my watch and saw that it was well past 11:00 am now.
I rushed up the stairs to the guest room and quickly changed and grabbed my keys. As I was walking down the hall, I heard something that resembled sniffling behind Jade’s room. My steps faltered for a few seconds.
I waited and listened, but the sniffling had stopped.
I continued downstairs until I was out the front door and in my car. This was not how I had envisioned my morning starting, but at least I had gotten the hardest part over with.
