I stared at her, then left without saying anything.

I couldn’t believe what I had done.

Well, I could believe it.

I had always thought her interesting, attractive, and without the pretense of Josh Kelley, that connection that I’d suspected we could form had grown into something.

Still, I was doing the very last thing I should be doing.

At some point, Petrosyan interests would require me to move on. And what would happen then?

There was no way I could leave her out there, a loose end that could come back to bite us.

But the other alternatives…

They weren’t alternatives.

I told myself that I should heed my own words and recognize that sleeping with her didn’t change anything.

Told myself it was true.

Knew in my heart it was a lie.
