He didn’t move a muscle. He didn’t even tense.

And yet she felt his reaction like a burst of electromagnetic energy, just as if a lightning bolt had struck him and the effects were pulsing from his body into hers.

She was right.

Achileas was staring at her. His breathing wasn’t quite steady, and his eyes looked strange, the pupils huge and dark. He had looked at her like that once before, but when?

‘Achileas...’ she said softly.

But as she reached for him, he turned and walked away without a backward glance, and was instantly swallowed up by the darkness. And now, she really was alone.
