Mila could feel her cheeks turning crimson. Fortunately, no one else had seen that. She straightened up and patted at her elaborate updo to make sure everything was still in place.

Maddox’s fingers slid across her brunette waves as he secured a lock of hair back where it belonged. They locked eyes for a moment too long and Mila quickly stepped out of kissing range.

She smoothed out her dress and rubbed her lips together. “I need to get back to what I was doing.”

Maddox lifted his eyebrows. “If you insist–” He took a step toward her, but she flicked out her hand.

“Don’t even think about it,” she snapped.

“Oh, I won’t.” He fiddled with his cuffs. “But I’d like to point out that last event was not my doing.”

Mila sucked in a breath. “Have a nice trip home.” Without further ado, Mila strode with her head high toward one of the waiting rooms they were using and thankfully shut herself inside. Alone. To die in peace.

That was the first and last time she would take a chance like that ever again.
