Her cell rang endlessly and then disconnected.

At work, I searched for her. No one had heard anything from her at all, she just hadn’t shown up that morning.

Dejected and worried sick, I went to my office. There was a letter on my desk. I opened it, expecting nothing in particular and then realized it was from Anastasia.

The gist of the letter was that I shouldn’t search for her. She had returned to Kansas and didn’t want to be bothered. Then she thanked me for the opportunity to work for my company and all the experiences it gave her.

There were no words of love or even of longing. She signed it with her full name.
