âDo you care if I roll down my window?â Chance asked Dylan, who was driving him to the ranch.
âNot at all.â The former Navy SEAL was now the current head of security of TBK as well as one of the team members of Shannonâs Elite. âThe air is brisk. Helps a man to clear his head. Whatâs on your mind, Chance?â
The guy was intuitive for sure. âNot a âwhatâ but a âwho.â Kaylyn is on my mind.â
âJust what I thought.â Dylan drove over Silver Spoon Bridge.
âHow could you possibly read me so well?â
âYears of training at Langley and good instincts.â
Chance admired Dylanâs no-nonsense demeanor. Who better to ask advice from than him? âCan you shed some light on how things work in Destiny?â
âMeaning?â
âYou knowâ¦how do you and Camâ¦make thingsâ¦hell, I donât know how to say this.â
âHow do we make it work with Erica?â
Straight to the point. God, I like this guy. âAs a matter of fact, yes. Iâm interested in knowing how you three do it.â
âSo Jaris finally got off the fence and let Kaylyn know he loved her, too? Didnât take him as long as you.â
âDoes the whole town know?â
; Dylan laughed. âOf course. It was obvious to everyone but you three.â
Chance sighed. âI really love her but I donât understand sharing her.â
âWhatâs to understand? You love her. Jaris loves her. She loves you both. Everyone knows that. Whatâs the problem?â
âIâm not from Destiny.â
âToo bad for you. Itâs the best place on the planet.â
âIâm coming to see that, but I was raised to believe that a marriage was between one man and one woman.â
Dylan laughed. âSo youâre against same-sex marriages?â
âCracking jokes isnât like you.â Chance had never heard Dylan act this way before. The guy was so serious and to the point most of the time.
âErica is teaching me to take myself less seriously. Plus, Iâm just trying to lighten you up, buddy. Youâre quite intense this morning.â
âI guess I am. Of course Iâm fine with same-sex marriage. But that, too, is between two individuals, not three.â
âReally? Have you never heard of the Three Musketeers?â
He grinned. âWeâre going to have to put you on stage, Dylan.â
âNo way. These jokes are all for you. Iâve sort of been in your shoes, Chance. Ready to leave the woman of my dreams.â
âYou and Erica?â
âYes. I thought I was doing the right thing. I wanted to leave town and let her and my brother have a life together. I wouldâve made the biggest mistake of my life had I done it. Quit trying to figure it out. Just let it be.â
