âProve it. Tell me whatâs going on. Trust me with the truth.â
It sounded so simple and yet she was in an impossible place and he knew that. She was being torn in two.
But doesnât he deserve to know it all? To know whoâs coming after him? To protect himself.
If Forrest ever found out that she told him thoughâ¦
She looked around at the others. It was one thing to trust Ink but she didnât know these guys.
âYou can trust them as well, Betsy. I own Callahan Security, and you know that Iâm ex-Special Forces. Well, so are most of the guys I hire. Brody here is my tech expert. Heâs worked for me for years. Duke and Reyes are my MC brothers. I grew up with Duke. Thereâs no one I trust more. Reyes is our President. He might seem like a scary bastard, but heâs got a soft spot for women. Weâll all protect you.â
Reyes grunted at that but didnât say anything to contradict what Ink said.
She licked her dry lips. What choice did she really have? âYou have to get my sons to safety.â They were most important.
âOf course. Where are they?â
âAt a boarding school in Texas. Heâll have people watching them, though. I canât just go in and take them out.â
; âTheir names?â
âRoyal and Baron.â
âDates of birth?â Brody asked.
âTheyâre twins. They were born January nineteenth, two thousand and four.
Ink frowned. âYou were only fourteen when you had them?â
âWhat? Oh, no. Theyâre not my biological sons. When I met my husband, the boys were eight. I love them like theyâre my own.â
âAnd your husband?â Ink asked in a tight voice.
âDead,â she said in a flat voice. âLong may he rot in hell.â
Quiet filled the room.
âThereâs no record of your marriage,â Brody finally interjected.
âThere was a ceremony, but it wouldnât surprise me if the officiant wasnât licensed. I signed documents. Maybe he didnât have them filed. Or maybe the whole thing was faked. I was still young and naïve back then.â
âWho was your husband?â Ink asked her.
Sheâd reached it. The point of no return.
Like youâre not past it anyway. You were past it the moment you gave Ink that note, warning him.
âHis name was Rex Harrison.â She sucked in a breath. âMy husband was an abusive asshole who worked as a bodyguard for the only man Iâve met who was more evil than he is. The man attempting to frame you for murdering the senator.â
âAnd his name?â Ink asked. âWho is this asshole?â
âForrest Robins.â

Ink froze.
