Z taps my hand to get my attention. âRock, after what we learned from Mariella, thereâs no doubt. These guys have got to go. Ainât a decent human being in that crew.â
âWeâll discuss it more when I get back. I want everyone to stay on alert. Even though Iâm out, and the charges were dropped, it doesnât mean theyâre not up to something else. This was some sneaky, fucked up shit, that took thought and planning. Things weâre not used to seeing from Vipers.â
âThey gotta be hunting Mariella down,â Dex says.
His words bring me to my next item. âMariella. What are we doing with her?â
Surprisingly, Tellerâs the one to speak up. âShe wants to stay. After the shit they forced her into, sheâs more than happy taking over our household stuff. Plus, sheâs sort of bonded to Trinity.â
Wrath throws a look at Teller, then turns to me. âTrinâs not one-hundred percent on board with turning her stuff over, but she likes Mariella. Thinks sheâll be okay.â
âWe can trust her?â
Z nods. âI think so. Sheâs a sweet girl. Real shy.â
âGreat cook,â Murphy adds. âWhen Trinity lets the girl touch her kitchen.â
The guys chuckle over that. Trinityâs run that kitchen with an iron fist for years. I imagine turning it over to someone else isnât making her too happy.
âI can trust every one of you to leave her alone? Sheâs under our protection and thatâs it.â
It doesnât escape my notice that everyone but Teller agrees. I point down the table at him. âAre we going to have a problem?â
âNo,â he answers.
I turn to Wrath. âTrinâs made it clear we donât expect anything else out of her?â Iâd rather not repeat past mistakes.
âYeah. Hope did too.â He lowers his voice. âIt made more of an impression coming from Trinity.â
âIâm sure it did.â My focus returns to the rest of the guys. âWhere we at with GSC?â
âAll good,â Z reports. âThey were surprisingly supportive. You know, as long as we kept the weed coming.â
Wrath picks up Zâs thread. âYeah, he offered us some valuable intel when we needed it. Made extracting Mariella a fuck lot easier.â
I canât help wondering what Loco will ask for in return one day.
The guys give me a report on the last few drops with GSC and I take my seat. Sparky gives me an update on his current plan and two future projects he wants to work on.
When he finishes, Iâm still considering whether I want to bring up the last item on my list.
âPrez?â Z prompts.
âIzzard. What went down?â
Wrath and Z exchange looks. âWhy donât you tell us,â Wrath finally says. Bold move, fucker.
âDonât know. He took a dislike to me from the morning I processed in. Took some shit from him. Nothing I couldnât handle.â
Wrathâs getting more and more pissed and I catch him shaking his head.
âNow, since you guys didnât know that, what made you decide to take action on him? And what happened? He ran his mouth about Hope, but I figured he was bluffing.â Was praying like fuck he was bluffing.
âHe disrespected, Hope,â Wrath says. His mouth flattens into a grim line. âWe couldnât let that stand. Then the day of the bail hearing, Hope said you had a black eye. Figured it had to be him.â
âBroke his motherfuckinâ fingers,â Murphy spits out. âCried like a little bitch.â
I take a second to absorb that. My gaze drills into Wrath again. âHow specifically did he disrespect Hope?â
âHe gave her a pat-down that morning. Used it as an opportunity to grope her.â He drops his head, staring at his hands. âI couldnât see what was going on from where I was, but I shouldâve gotten her the fuck out of there the minute he started hassling us.â
I lean back, wait for my rage fog to clear, and donât say anything for a few minutes. âDid he know where the payback was coming from?â
âNo,â Teller answers. âWe didnât know if he had buddies on the inside whoâd get to you. We went in masked, didnât say anything. Broke his fuckinâ hands, knocked him out and took off.â
Turning to Wrath, I ask, âYou a part of it?â
His faceâs all sort of pissed-off when he answers. âNo. Couldnât risk him recognizing my big ass.â
This surprises me. It was a good call even though I know it must have killed him not to be a part of it. âSmart thinking. Who else went?â
Z, Ravage and Dex raise their hands, but Dexâs the one who speaks. âSwan helped us lure him to a motel. Heâs one sick, twisted fucker.â
That does not surprise me.
âAll right. We can talk about what to do with him when I get back. Anything else?â
âProspects been staying here,â Wrath says. âWe make them stay in the basement with Sparky and Stash, though.â
Sparky raises his hand. âYeah, about thatââ
All of us laugh.
âWhat do we think? Howâd Hoot and Birch do? Theyâre both coming up on two years of prospecting. Time to vote?â
Murmurs of approval go around the table. Z speaks up. âThey both stepped up big time. Axel too, but I know heâs not ready yet.â
âAll right, weâll talk about that when I get back.â I point to the door. âSomeone go tell them to join us.â
Dex lets the prospects in and they automatically move to the back of the room.
âGood to see you back, prez,â Birch says. Hoot and Axel make similar comments.
âGood to be back. So, I hear you prospects have been staying up here. What the fuckâs that about?â I joke to lighten everyone up. In the back of the room, Hoot, Birch and Axel stand a little straighter but keep their mouths shut.
Z lifts his hand to speak. âThey were a big help. When Butch and Iron Jim had to take off, prospects took over door duty at CBââ
âBig hardship hanging out with the strippers,â Murphy comments.
My mouth twists into a smirk and I nod at Axel. âHowâd Heidi take that?â
âNot too well, prez.â
Everyone in the room bursts out laughing. Even Teller.
I glance at Murphy, pretty sure I know how Axel got assigned to CB. âWe wonât have you back there, kid. Lord knows thereâs plenty of shit to keep you busy here.â
Wrath grins like a devil. âI got some trees that need clearing.â
âThanks,â Axel says.
âDonât thank him yet, thereâre a lot of trees out there,â Z jokes.
I donât think Axel minds one bit.
âAny other business I should know about?â
I get a bunch of negative responses, but no one stands yet, waiting to see what else I want to say. âLove every one of you. Thanks for everything. I heard the clubhouse was pretty dismal in my absence, so celebrate tonight. Wrathâs got something he wants to do, so hang in the living room for a few before going off to get fucked up.â
Guys chuckle and stream out into the living room. Z and Wrath stay behind.
âNeed anything, bro?â Z asks Wrath.
âNope. All good.â
Z pulls me in for a quick hug and pounds on my back. âMissed you. Glad youâre back.â
âSame.â
Z leaves and shuts the door behind him, which is fine because I need a moment alone with Wrath.
âWhatâs on your mind, prez?â
My mouth curves into a grin. Brother already knows I got a few questions for him. âBe honest now. Hope did okay?â
âYeah. I mean, she was sad, no doubt about it. But she kept busy. Looked after all of us. Harassed Glassman in her polite lawyer way when the rest of us wanted to rip his head off. Didnât give us any grief.â
âThis thing with Izzard?â
âRock. Iâm so sorry. You donâtââ
âI know what a fuckinâ dick he is. I donât blame you and Iâm not mad at you.â
âLying to you fuckinâ killed me. But I knew??
?â
âYeah. You did the right thing.â
âShe shook it off. But I donât know.â
âIâll talk to her. Now, Hope mentioned Trinity had a hard time?â
Wrath runs his hand through his hair, which automatically makes me think it was bad. âYeah, you know with her dadââ
âYou realize Iâm not even ten years older than her and only two years older than you, right?â
I get a hint of a smile out of him. âWhat can I say? Youâre a father figure to everyone. Itâs all that wisdom of experience.â
âWhatever. Go on.â
âNothing. She struggled and because I was busy watching over Hope, I didnât realize how hard she was taking it at first.â
Now itâs my turn to run my hands over my head. âFuck, man. Iâm so sorry. Once those cuffs snapped on my wrists, I panicked. I didnât know what the fuck might be coming for the club. I trust you more than anyone, but I didnât mean you had toââ
âItâs fine. We worked it out. Hope set me straight,â he chuckles and shakes his head.
âWhat arenât you telling me?â
âCome on, man. You know what type of club Trinity grew up in. What do you think their solution was for an âol lady when her man was locked up?â
It takes a second for me to puzzle out and when I do my face must turn murderous because Wrath backs up a step. âTrust me, Hope thought the idea was disgusting. She told me to quit bugging her and take care of Trinity.â
Thatâs my girl.
âAnd?â
Wrath runs his hands through his hair and seems to be considering what he wants to share with me. âHaving Mariella here has brought up some stuff for Trin.â
âI can imagine,â I answer quietly.
âShe went through a rough patch. But weâre working through it.â
âYou need anything?â
âYeah, introduce me to your contractor.â
I raise an eyebrow.
âI think getting her out of the clubhouse will help.â
âYeah, I can understand that. You ainât building next door to us though.â I follow it up with a grin, so he knows Iâm messing with him.
âPlease. I donât want to be within screaming distance of you two sex-crazed monkeys.â
I huff a laugh out. âSame.â
âNo, seriously, I know itâs gonna take a while, and you need to get yours finished before the weddingââ
âAh, fuck. Can you have Z call Jasper? Get him and his crew up here as soon as possible.â
He nods. Then pins me with a thoughtful expression.
âSpit it out.â
âI wonât lie, Rock. Z and I expected her to bolt at first. Never figured sheâd tough something like this out when I first met her. But she kept throwing herself into the club in her own way.â
âGood. Thatâs good.â
âHer faith was stronger than her fear. Kept planning your wedding. Held her head up high. After that bullshit hearing, she was spitting mad when she came out of the courtroom. Judge said some fucked up shit to her, but she shook it off. Let Glassman have it when she thought he was disrespecting your relationship. She never doubted you.â
Iâm having a hard time swallowing over the lump in my throat. Thereâs so much catching up Hope and I have to do.
âShe may not be a typical old lady, but sheâs a good one,â Wrath finishes.
âThank you.â
âYou got it.â Wrath turns and springs his cabinet open.
I watch as he pulls out Trinityâs vest with his Property of Wrath patch on the back and all our officersâ patches on the side. Finally. âReady to go claim your own âol lady?â
âFuck yes. God damn.â
Canât help chuckling at that. âSheâs not a typical âol lady either.â And Iâm not referring to her club girl days.
âNope. But weâre not exactly typical bikers either.â
âAmen to that, brother.â
Iâm twitchy as a motherfucker when Rock and I step out of the war room. My gaze darts around the room taking in my brothers, the prospects, couple club girls. Then my eyes lock onto Trinity. Laughing in the corner with Hope. Love seeing her more at ease and not running around fetching drinks and shit.
âCan you fuckers all pipe down for a second?â I shout over the noise. Silence descends on the room. Turning, I curl a finger at Trinity and motion her to me. She hurries over with a big smile, until she sees whatâs in my hand.
Then she stops dead in her tracks. Thatâs fine. Took so fucking long, she probably figured I was full of shit.
I take the last few steps to her, curling my hand around her hip in case she decides to bolt and sink down to my knees in front of her.
âWyattââ she protests, looking around the room. âEveryoneâsââ
âEveryoneâs gonna hear me claim you and patch you,â I answer. I raise my voice so the whole clubhouse hears. âYou all might have heard I claimed Trinity as my old lady.â
I get a lot of whistles, shouting and catcalls in return.
âAnd everyone knows when Kings claim a woman, the officers vote on her too.â I hold out the cut to Trinity and her honey eyes meet mine. The corner of her mouth trembles and her eyes gloss over.
âSo I got the votes and my girlâs getting my patch, and youâre all here to witness it.â
The room erupts into sounds of congratulations as I stand, pick her up and kiss the fuck out of her. âWill you wear my patch, baby?â
âYou know I will.â
I set her down and help her into the vest. âThought I was full of shit, didnât you?â
âNo. I knew there was a lotââ
I cut her off with another kiss, lifting her into my arms where she belongs, not giving a fuck about the noise around us.
âFinally!â Rock shouts and I can hear Hope shushing him.
When I set Trin down, my hand squeezes her hip where my starâs inked into her skin. âMy tat, my patch, now you just need a ring.â
âWhatever you want.â
âOh, in that caseââ
She slaps my chest, throwing off the uncertainty that seemed to settle over her. âYou know what Wrath wants, Wrath gets,â she says with a sweet laugh.
âThat true?â
âYes.â
âGood. Kiss me.â
She doesnât hesitate, throws her arms around my neck and plants one on my cheek. âIâm so proud to officially be yours,â she whispers and I think itâs the sweetest thing sheâs ever said.
âSomeone throw a bucket of ice water on those two!â Murphy shouts and I turn to see, yes, the little fuckerâs talking about Trin and me.
âYou got a death wish, bro?â
He tilts his head toward the door. Toward the garage. Fuck. âYeah, okay.â
I glance over to where Rockâs got Hope basically pinned to the wall. Ainât paying attention to anything except his woman. âLooks like that bucket of ice waterâs needed somewhere else,â I grumble.
Trinity chuckles. âLeave them alone.â
âHe wanted to hit the road, and itâs getting late. Murphyâs got a surprise for them.â
âOh, okay.â
She rushes over and yanks Hope away, making me laugh my ass off at the expression on Rockâs face.
âMurphy needs you outside, prez.â
His gaze shoots to the door where Murphyâs waiting and he nods. When he reaches Hope, he bends down and tosses her over his shoulder like the caveman we all know he is. She kicks and squeals as we follow him out the door. âPut me down before you hurt yourself.â
Trinity snickers. âNow she did it.â
Rock pops her on the ass and she yelps. âI can not believe you did that in front of everyone!â
âIâll do it again, sass-mouth.â
Everyone else is waiting in the garage, so not as many people witnessed it as Hope thinks. Still funny as fuck.
Trinity slides her hand into mine and I glance down
at her. âYou want some of that?â
She peeks up at me. âLater.â
âLater youâre gonna wear that vest and nothing else for me while I fuck the hell out of you.â
âOooh. If youâre nice I might add something else youâll like,â she teases, while batting her lashes at me.
Hmmm. Maybe I can see the bike when Rock and Hope get back.
âI know what youâre thinking,â Trinity scolds, yanking my hand and dragging me into the garage.
Rockâs so stunned, he almost drops Hope when he sets her down inside the garage. âMurphy, whatâ?â
Yeah, the kid did good.
âOh my God. Murphy, itâs beautiful,â I blurt out.
Rock still seems to be forming an opinion. Murphyâs tense as he waits for Rockâs approval and I worry what will happen if he doesnât get it.
âSweet tourer. Youâll be the coolest old man in the retirement community,â Z jokes and punches Rockâs arm.
âFuck off,â Rock growls.
Murphy folds his arms over his chest, but not before giving Z the finger.
âHeâs been working on it all summer, Rock,â Wrath says.
I trace my hand over the raised back seat. âI love it.â
Murphy grins and relaxes a notch.
âYou do the paint?â Rock asks.
âNo. Bricks helped with it.â
My eyes seek Bricks out. âI love the color. Itâs so pretty.â
The guys hassle Rock over that. But it is pretty. A deep, sparkling forest green. No LOKI logos anywhere, and I kind of miss the ever-present skull wearing its crown.
The guys discuss a bunch of mechanical-bike stuff that goes right over my head. All I care about is the back rest with the cushier seat and the passenger floor boards. My poor ass had not been looking forward to a long trip on Rockâs bike.
After it seems they go over every single last shock, air filter, and fender, Murphy skirts the edge of the group and makes his way to me. âDo you really like it?â
Somehow I sense heâs seeking my approval more than Rockâs over this project and a dull ache flashes through my chest. Because Iâm the touchy-feely type, I wrap my arms around him. While he hugs me back, I meet Rockâs eyes across the room. His nod and half-smile reassure me. He knows I care for Murphy the way I would a younger brother and isnât concerned about the display of affection.
