Page 39 of Tattered on My Sleeve (Lost Kings MC 4)
Z waves his hand in the air, dismissing Dexâs sage advice. âNah, she loves me.â
I shake my head.
Dex and Murphy head out. Z fills me in on the trip.
âSeriously, he didnât look at another chick the entire time,â he says.
I shrug. âIs that supposed to be a surprise?â
Z tilts his head and stares at me. âItâs fuckinâ weird, thatâs all.â
âI thought you liked Hope?â
âI do. Whatâs that got to do with anything?â
I make my For fuckâs sake face at him.
Z lowers his voice. âDonât tell me on your next trip out there youâre not gonna hang with Shaââ
My hand squeezes the back of his neck. âWorry about where you park your own dick, brother.â
He slaps my arm away. Weâre interrupted from further discussion by the couple in question coming down the stairs.
âHey, porn stars,â I call out. Hopeâs finally wearing her property patch. The sight of it knocks the breath out of me.
Z goes on to do exactly what Dex warned him not to do, almost getting an ass-kicking from Rock. I sit back and enjoy not being on Rockâs shit list for once.
âAre you still in pain?â Rock asks her after I have to sit through the two of them playing an extended game of tonsil hockey.
âA little.â She reaches over and taps my leg. âThatâs why Wrath offered to get me high.â
Thanks for bringing that up, Cinderella. âSee, I told you Iâd take good care of her.â I smirk at Rock.
Sparky surfaces and asks for Rockâs help. Once they disappear downstairs, Hope turns to me with a sly smile. âEnjoy Trinityâs new outfit?â
Well, now. Cinderella came to play. Letâs see if she can take it or only dish it out. âI sure did. Heard you got one just like it. That what got prez so worked up?â
Her cheeks turn bright red. Just as I thought. She taps my side with her fist. âJerk.â
âYou started it. Iâm not sure if you noticed, but no oneâs sex life is a secret here.â Fuck, thatâs the understatement of the year.
âIâm a bit of a prude, arenât I?â
Well, at least sheâs self-aware. âWeâll work it out of you. Oh, and I gotta tell you, the idea of you and Trin trying that shit on together is going straight into my spank bank.â
Her face flushes even redder. âOh my gosh! It wasnât like that. And ew.â
My star patch on the side of her vest catches my eye. On Trinityâs vest, the star would be over her heart. Am I ever going to get there with her? I feel like her finally confiding in me last night moved us closer. Iâm not jealous of Rock. Not exactly. But Trinity grew up in the life and understands the significance of a property patch. The fact that Hopeâwho had no fucking clue anything like that existed before she met Rockâis wearing one first, frustrates the fuck out of me.
Rockâs gone for a while and I can tell sheâs getting anxious.
âWrath?â
âYes, sugar.â
âWhatâs downstairs?â
I chuckle. âThe club business.â She doesnât laugh. Motherfucker. âRock still hasnât told you?â
âGeez, donât tell me itâs more strippers,â she grumbles.
âNo strippers.â
âPorn studio?â
âNo sugar. Noting like that.â
Rock chooses that exact moment to come back upstairs. I turn and glare at him. âCan I have a word with you, brother?â
âNot now, weâve got a problem,â he answers, dismissing me.
âWhy donât you take Hope on a tour of downstairs?â
Rockâs jaw sets in a hard line. âNot now.
Hope sits up. âWrath, itâs fine. Iââ
âWhat the fuck you waiting for? You patched her.â
Rock clearly wants to knock me the fuck out, but this is getting ridiculous. The girlâs here all the time. She should know the risk sheâs taking.
âFine. You wanna see whatâs downstairs, baby doll?â he asks her.
Hopeâs gaze swings between the two of us. âIf you want me to.â
âChrist, itâs not that big a deal at this point.â I say.
âShut up. Remember, you started this,â Rock growls.
He leads her downstairs and I wait for the fallout.
Maybe half an hour later, they return. Hope seems to have survived. Rock looks like he wants to punch something. Probably me.
He keeps going right upstairs even though Hope stops to talk to me. âRock?â I call out, but he ignores me. Shrugging, I turn to Hope. âWhat did you think?â
âPretty cool.â
What crawled up Rockâs ass then? âYouâre very unpredictable, Hope.â
She pats my arm and takes off after Rock.
Theyâre barely gone a minute, when she comes racing back downstairs. âHope! Whatâs wrong?â
Sheâs shaking her head and I can tell sheâs close to tears. Before I can grab her, she darts out the door.
Motherfucker. Iâm gonna wrap my hands around Rockâs neck and squeeze really hard. How dare he take her on a tour of our entire operation, then piss her off so bad she storms off afterward.
Iâve been doing better without the crutches, but the stairs are a pain in the fucking ass. Iâm livid by the time I reach Rockâs door, so I pound on it extra hard. âRock! Open the fucking door.â
After a minute, he opens it wearing a towel.
âWhat the fuck did you say to her?â I snap at him.
âWho?â
âHope, you asshole. She just took off in fucking tears.â
He glances around the room then back at me. âSheâs not going to run to the cops, if thatâs what youâre worried about. She thought Sparky and his setup were adorable.â
Now I really do want to choke him. I know she isnât gonna run to the police. But we also donât need her sobbing to one of her girlfriends and mentioning our grow house in the process. We do not need is a pissed-off woman who not only knows where our clubhouse is, but whatâs in our basement running around.
He promises to go talk to her and I hop next door to my room before I really do knock his ass out. No fuckinâ way am I making it back downstairs anytime soon.
My roomâs surprisingly clean and dust free considering I havenât been in it in weeks. I assume thatâs Trinityâs doing.
I roll onto my bed and stare up at the ceiling. Remembering the conversation Trinity and I had about my sister, I reach out and snag the second drawer of my nightstand. My only photo of Faith is tucked into a silver frame. Both of us are actually in the cheesy Sears portrait. I canât stand looking at what a goofy kid I was, but Faithâs just as adorable as I remember.
I set the frame on top of the nightstand so Iâll remember to bring it back downstairs with me.
Z shoves my door open. âWhatâre you doinâ in here?â
âDidnât you ever learn to knock?â
He snorts and steps inside. âYou and Trin okay?â
âYeah. I came up here to choke Rock.â Weâve all been friends for so long, this doesnât phase him.
I give him the concise version and he laughs. âShe ainât gonna run her mouth. Even if sheâs pissed at him, heâs got her pretty well dick-whipped.â
A harsh laugh explodes out of me. âIâd love to see you say that to her face.â
He grins. âI gotta run out. You need anything?â
âNah. Iâll hop back downstairs eventually.â
After he leaves, I end up dozing off.
My phone buzzing in my pocket wakes me.
Where are you?
Something about Trinity asking where I am makes me grin like an idiot. I let her know Iâm upstairs and dial Rock.
âWhat?â he snaps. Typical.
âWhere are you, dick?â
âAt Hopeâs.â
Thank fuck. âShe okay?â
âYes.â
âAre you guys okay?â
In t
he background I hear Hope say. âAwwwâ and it makes me chuckle.
âYeah, weâre good,â Rock answers.
âAre you coming back up tonight?â
âYeah, weâll be up in a little while,â she answers.
âOh, for fuckâs sake, are you going to turn into one of those annoying couples who answers every phone call together?â I snap, but Iâm laughing the entire time.
âBye, Wrath,â she says and hangs up on me.
Iâm still shaking my head when Trinity knocks on the door.
âYou donât have to knock, angel.â
She shrugs. âDo I want to know?â
At first I think sheâs joking, but then I notice how nervous she looks. âI came up here to kick Rockâs ass and was too tired to hop back downstairs,â I explain.
âOh.â
I pat the bed. âCome sit. I want to show you something.â
She rushes over and sits next to me. I pull her down for a kiss. âYouâre not gettinâ rid of me, if thatâs what you were thinking.â
âNo?â
âNo. Even once you finally let me publicly claim your ass. I think Iâd rather stay downstairs with you.â
âReally?â
âYeah, really.â
âButââ She stops and looks around my room. âThis is a nice room. You earned it, being one of the officers of the clubââ
âTrin, look at me.â I wait until she does what I ask. âDonât give a fuck about that. I like being away from all the stuff going on up here. Unless you donât want meâ¦â
âNo.â She glances around again and I can almost hear her thoughts. âIâd like that.â
âWe can talk about it later.â
âOkay. Whatâd you want to show me?â
Picking up the silver frame, I glance at it one more time before handing it over.
âOh.â Watery honey eyes blink up at me. âSheâs so pretty, Wyatt.â
A smile tugs at the corners of my mouth. âYeah.â
âLook at you. All those blond curls.â She chuckles while running her fingers over the glass.
âI look like a doof.â
âOh, no. Youâre both so sweet together. Can I bring it downstairs with us?â
âYeah, of course.â I shove over to make room for her and pat the bed. âCome here.â
Slowly, she lies down next to me so weâre both staring at the ceiling. âI used to hate coming in hereâ¦before,â she says quietly.
âWhy?â
She turns her head, staring at me. Hurt crosses her face and I know what sheâs going to say. âI never knew who orâ¦what Iâd find in your bed.â
Shit. The idea of her cleaning up afterâ¦It probably occurred to me once or twice over the years, but never like this. âIâm sorry.â
She shrugs and turns away. âIt was my own fault. I deserved it.â
âDonât say that, Trinity.â
âHow many times did you run into me leavingââ She chokes on a sob and finishes her thought by flinging her hand in the direction of the hallway.
âToo many. And I hated it every time.â
She laughs and sniffles at the same time. âI guess weâre even?â
I catch her hand in mid-air and bring it to my mouth, kissing her fingertips. âWeâre done hurting each other.â
She nods and swipes her cheeks.
âLetâs go back downstairs, Angel Face.â
We all knew it was coming. Rock was never going to be satisfied with just the property patch.
On a chilly winter day, he proposed to Hope. Wrath and I were at the clubhouse and celebrated with them.
Somehow I get dragged along to celebrate her engagement with her friends the following Friday.
I chose a simple outfit of jeans and a soft, sparkly sweater. Hope went all-out. She picked a blinding-pink dress, gray tights and shiny heels. Rock got one look at her and we almost didnât make it out of the house.
Wrath pulled me in for a hug right before we left. âHave fun, angel.â
I donât know about that. Lilly and Sophie start teasing Hope about her dress almost immediately.
âWhat? I think itâs cute,â she says.
âI like it too,â Mara says, reaching over to give Hope a quick hug. This is the first time Iâve met Mara. Supposedly sheâs married to a judge or something. She seems really sweet and shy though. I donât get to talk to her much because sheâs at the opposite end of the table.
âHer man almost didnât let her out of the house when he saw her tonight. Youâre lucky I got her down here,â I explain to the girls.
âSeems like a good time to hand you this, then,â Mara says, picking up a shiny pink gift bag from the floor.
âIâm scared to open it,â Hope jokes.
She should be too. She pulls sex guides, sex toys, lube and finally, a paddle out of the bag. Hopeâs a good sport. âReally? Have I given any of you the impression we need help in that department?â
Imagining Rockâs reaction when Hope tells him her friends think he needs the Guyâs Guide to Going Down has me falling out of my chair with laughter.
They joke around a little longer. I guess Maraâs not so shy after all.
Sophie kills the laughter. âAre you going to take your time planning this wedding?â She waves her hand in the air, almost smacking Lilly. âYou and your mother threw the last one together so quick, we all thought you were pregnant.â
Hope looks like she was punched in the gut and I have to stop myself from jumping over the table and smacking the shit out of Sophie. Hope just lost a baby. What the fuck is wrong with her friend?
âFuck, honey. Iâm so sorry. I didnât mean⦠I forgot. Shit, it just happened, and wow, Iâm sorry,â Sophie mumbles.
Not ten seconds later, Sophie brings up Hopeâs first wedding again. What the hell is wrong with this chick?
I glance at Lilly. âSo, Lilly, are those knockers real?â
Well, thatâs certainly one way to take the focus off Hope. But I swear to God, if Sophie says one more thing to upset Hope, I really am going to kick her ass.
Eventually, guys show up. More lawyer friends. Adam and Ross. Theyâre nice enough. Then our guys show up. Well, Rock and Z do.
Z smirks while Rock gropes his woman in the middle of the bar. Then he pokes me. âYour roommateâs waitinâ outside.â
What the fuck? Why canât he come inside like a normal person? We had this sweet and honest moment the other day. Heâs been after me to announce our relationship, but he canât even come inside and sit with me?
Iâm so irritated, I barely listen to the conversation around me.
When we all get up to leave, I stick with Hope. Wrathâs leaning on my Jeep facing the door when we step outside. He glances up and smiles when he sees me.
My heart skips.
âYou could have joined us,â Hope says.
âNah, Iâm good, Cinderella.â
Mara giggles when she hears that, so Hope introduces them. Heâs actually being civil. So why couldnât he come inside and do that?
He raises an eyebrow at me and I ignore him.
When weâre down to just Rock, Hope, Wrath and me, Wrath snags me around the waist and yanks me against him.
âWhy you ignoring me, Angel Face?â
âTrin, you okay to drive?â Rock calls out.
âYup, only had water,â I shout back.
He waves and takes off.
âLetâs go,â I say, wriggling out of his hold and unlocking the car.
Once we get on the highway, Wrath sighs. âHow was your night?â
âFine.â
âYou mad at me?â
âNope.â
âYeah, you are. Why?â
My hands tighten on the steering wheel. âWhy couldnât you come in and sit with me? You keep saying you want to announce us to everyone, but then you donât want to be seen in publicââ
âTrin, what are you, five-seven, a buck twenty-five?â I snort because
heâs being awfully generous there, but he ignores me. âIâm more than twice your size. You have any idea how uncomfortable those tiny fucking buildings down here are for a guy my size? Got nothing to do with how I feel about you. Fuck I didnât even think my shoulders would fit through the door. Then with the cast, Iâm even more clumsy and awkwardââ
âOh.â Wow. I feel like total shit. Heâs always so cocky, and sure of himself, it never occurred to me something like that might bother him.
âYou got your issues. I got mine,â he says, staring out the window.
Heâs right. Heâs so patient with me and all my emotional fuckery.
âIâm sorry,â I whisper.
He reaches out and squeezes my leg but doesnât say anything else.
We drive up the long road to the clubhouse behind Rockâs vehicle. As I back into my spot, Wrath snorts.
âLooks like Rock has his hands full.â
âAw, heâs so sweet.â
Wrath glances over at me.
âWhat? He is.â
Rockâs trying to juggle carrying Hope and getting the front door unlocked. Wrath chuckles. âItâs sad that you gotta keep drugginâ your girl to get her up here.â
Rockâs laughing so hard, I barely make out the âFuck youâ he responds with.
He jerks his head at his car. âGrab her stuff for me?â
I open the front door and as I turn to get the stuff out of the car, I see Wrath already grabbed it. âNice pink bag.â
He grins and lifts it up and down. âWhat the hellâs in it? Itâs heavy.â
How to explain? âBooks and sex toys,â I answer through giggles.
He raises an eyebrow at Rock who shrugs. âHer friendsâ idea of an engagement present,â he explains.
Of course Wrath takes that as an invitation to start pawing through Hopeâs stuff. He cracks up when he gets to the paddle.
âGive me that,â I snap, snatching the bag out of his trouble-making hands. âIâll drop this in front of your door, prez,â I say as I jog up the stairs.
On my way back, Wrathâs laughter reaches me before I see him. âSure, whatever you say, Cinderella.â
I guess Hopeâs awake.
âThereâs a guyâs guide for going down on his girl. You can have that since Rock doesnât need it.â
Oh, boy.
Wrath laughs even harder. He gasps. âTrust me, neither do I.â As soon as he spots me, I cringe, fearing what heâll say. âRight babe?â
