Page 20 of Corrupting Cinderella (Lost Kings MC 2)
She shakes her head and buries herself against his chest again.
Axel strides in next. Poor kid looks completely unsure of what to do. But heâs here for Heidi, and I respect that.
A nurse ushers us into the waiting room so weâre not jamming up her hallway. Heidi sees Axel and bursts into tears again. He gives her a hug, but is clearly uncomfortable showing her affection in front of her brother and me.
Good.
Heidi finally notices Hope, and her face twists. While I talk to the guys, Heidi edges toward Hope. Eventually, they get up and leave the room together.
Something is bothering Heidi. But sheâs not going to spill with her brother and Rock in the same room. As soon as weâre out of their eyesight, she bursts into tears again.
âHope, itâs all my fault,â she whispers.
âHoney, Iâm sure thatâs not true.â
She glances back at the waiting room. âGrandma caught me sneaking in the house, and we had a fight. I went to my room and heard her stomping around and yelling downstairs. Then all of a sudden she was quiet. I figured, good, she finally shut up.â Big, fat tears slide down her face. âAfter a while, it just seemed too quiet, so I went downstairs. Hope, she must have passed out, and I just let her lay thereâ¦â She trails off as she breaks into more tears.
Poor Heidi. âHoney, itâs not your fault. You did go check on her. And you called the ambulance. Sheâs getting treatment now. Itâs okay.â
âItâs my fault, though. If she hadnât caught meââ
âWere you with Axel, honey?â
She slides a guilty look toward the waiting room. âNot exactly.â
I have no idea what thatâs supposed to mean and itâs not really important, so I let it go.
âAm I going to get in trouble, Hope?â
I resist the urge to grin at her question. âNo, honey. Why would you think that?â
âCause we had that fightââ
âDid it turn physical?â
Her eyes widen, and she shakes her head violently. âGod, no. Itâs just thatâ¦I know she has a heart problem, and I snapped back at her when she called me names.â
The picture Iâm getting of what life is like with Heidiâs grandmother is unpleasant and a little too reminiscent of my own teenage years. My heart goes out to this motherless girl, who while a little wild, is still very sweet.
âNo, honey. Youâre not in trouble. Itâs normal to fight with family members sometimes.â
âPlease donât tell my brother. Heâs going to be so pissed at me. Gramâs already furious with him because of the custody thing, and now this...â
Now itâs my turn to have a guilty moment. Iâm also aware the woman has some health problems. Iâm sure the legal dispute hasnât helped.
Murphy stalks into the hospital, coming straight at us.
âI got your message, Heidi-bug. You okay?â
Her nose twitches at the nickname, and I hold back a laugh.
âYeah, thanks for coming.â
âHey, First Lady.â Murphy nods his head at me. âPrez with you?â
I tilt my head toward the waiting room. âHeâs in there with Teller and Axel.â
His eyes narrow at hearing Axelâs name, but he doesnât comment.
âNeed anything, Bug?â
Heidi shakes her head.
When weâre alone again, I give Heidi another hug. âItâs not your fault, sweetheart, okay? Why donât we join the others and wait for news?â
âOkay. Thank you, Hope.â
âYouâre welcome, sweetie.â
The guys break up their conversation when we reenter the room. Rock holds his hand out, and Heidi accepts a quick squeeze. âThanks for bringing my brother down, Uncle Rock.â
âNo problem, Heidi-girl.â
She grins when he doesnât add her hated nickname.
âHowâd you get here, Bug?â Murphy asks.
Her gaze darts between Axel and Murphy. Finally she settles into the chair next to her boyfriend, and he wraps an arm around her shoulders. âAmbulance.â
âIâll give you a lift home later,â Murphy says.
âI got her, bro,â Axel asserts.
Murphy acts as if Axel hadnât even spoken.
So much for Murphy not being into Heidi. I wonder if heâs going to freak out when he discovers she was sneaking around with Axel.
Shaking my head, I decide none of this is my problem.
Rock pats the chair next to him, and I drop into it with a sigh. His hand slides under my hair to massage my neck. âRough night, baby doll.â
âYeah.â
We donât have to wait too much longer. A nurse comes in and informs us that Mrs. Whelan is stable. Sheâs going to be out for the night, so the nurse urges everyone to go home and return in the morning.
Teller gets up and gives Rock a fist bump. âIâll catch a ride with Murphy, prez. Thanks for staying.â
Rock stands up and pulls Teller in for a quick man-hug. âYou need anything, call me. Donât care what time it is.â
âPromise.â
Rock turns to me. âMind staying at my house, instead of driving back to the club?â
I mentally run over what I have stashed at Rockâs house. âSure, thatâs fine.â
Rock scans the group. âAnyone need a lift?â
Axel and Heidi are standing apart from the group holding hands. Murphy watches them from his seat and doesnât even glance up at Rockâs question. Teller kicks Murphyâs leg to grab his attention. âWe cool, bro?â
âYeah, man. You ready to leave?â
âYeah.â He turns to Axel and Heidi. âAxel, you want to follow us? Iâm gonna stay at Gramâs with Bug tonight.â
âYeah, okay. I got her.â
âCool, letâs go.â Teller punches Murphyâs shoulder, and he finally gets up.
Rock and I walk ahead of the group. We reach our car first and say our good nights to everyone.
âWell, that was awkward,â I say with a snicker as soon as Rock closes his door.
âWhat?â
âMurphy. Whatâs his deal with Axel?â
Rock gives me one of his âare you kiddingâ looks. âAxelâs a good kid. I hate to break it to Murphy, but I think Heidi really is over her crush on him.â
âDuh. I wanted to marry a Backstreet Boy, when I was twelve.â
Laughter echoes through the interior. âI have no words, Hope.â
âI aim to entertain.â
He starts up the car and points us toward his house.
âWhatâd you talk about with Heidi?â
âOh, she was worried this was all her fault because she got into an argument with her grandmother tonight.â
âPoor kid. This shit has been rough on her.â
âDoes anyone know where her mom is?â
âNah. We tried helping Teller track her down for a long time. Nothing ever came of it.â
âThatâs awful. I know sheâs a handful sometimes, but sheâs basically a good kid.â
âI know.â
Weâre quiet the rest of the way. Me because my brain is trying to work out how this hospitalization is going to affect my legal case. Terrible, I know. But I canât help it. I also realize thereâs a possibility their grandmother may need the sort of round-the-clock care that only a nursing home can provide. Custody should automatically go to Teller thenâ
âWeâre home, babe,â Rock says, breaking into my thoughts. A loud yawn escapes me.
âYou okay?â
âYeah, just trying to work out how this will affect the case.â
Rock squints at me, probably thinking Iâm an insensitive jerk. Instead of chastising me for my callousness, he squeezes my hand. âThanks for caring about them so much.â
âOf course.â
âI mean it. Teller and Heidi are like family.â
âI know.â
âKnown Heidi since she was a little kid.â
Goosebumps work over my arms.
Rockâs such a softy underneath all his hard exterior.
âIâll go in early tomorrow to do a little research and make some phone calls.â
âTomorrow is Saturday, babe.â His hand reaches over and squeezes my thigh. âBesides, I think you mentioned something before about what youâre wearing underneath these jeans?â
Suddenly legal work is the furthest thing from my mind.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
âHey, Hope. This yours?â Z asks as heâs walking into the clubhouse dining room for breakfast.
I glance at the cell phone he pushes my way.
âYeah. Where was it?â
A careless lift of his shoulders. âFound it in the couch cushions.â
Not surprising. Iâm always losing my cell phone. And since I usually keep it on silent so it doesnât go off when Iâm in court, itâs almost impossible to find it.
âThanks.â
Z throws a smirk at me and heads into the kitchen.
Rock slips his hand over mine and gives it a squeeze.
âWhat are your plans for today?â
Itâs Monday, and since he convinced me the stuff with Tellerâs grandmother could wait until today, he knows damn well I am planning to go into the office.
I slant a look at him, and his mouth quirks.
âWhat are your plans?â I ask instead of giving him a verbal answer.
I get a side-eye in return. Thatâs right. Rock is always up in my business, but I have no idea about anything he does if itâs âfor the club.â
Whatever.
âActually, I have to take care of a few things at CB today.â
My nose wrinkles, which he catches. He lets out a soft chuckle.
âItâs closed today, babe. Thatâs why Iâm going.â
See, that doesnât make me feel any better. If it was crawling with dancers, heâd have a hard time saying no?
âHey, whatâs that face for?â he asks against my ear. His lips brushing over the sensitive skin there sends a shiver through me.
âNothing,â I whisper.
Before this conversation can go any further, weâre interrupted by Z and Trinity coming out of the kitchen. Theyâre playfully arguing over something. Sheâs carrying a tray with her and doesnât stop to sit with us.
âStop fucking babying him, Trin,â Rock teases as she goes by.
She laughs but doesnât say anything else.
Z shakes his head as he sits down. âThose two.â
Rock snorts in agreement.
âDid Teller stay up here last night?â I ask, hoping one of them will know.
âNah, heâs still staying with Bug.â
âGood.â
âSheâs already in lawyer mode,â Rock jokes while jerking his head at me.
Z chuckles. âYouâre a good girl, Hope.â
âThanks, I think.â
He laughs even harder. Iâve found itâs difficult to offend Z. Heâs a regular ray of sunshine compared to Wrath.
âAlright, I need to get going.â I push my chair out and grab my dishes. Rock stops me. âLeave it. Iâll take care of it.â
I arch an eyebrow at him. âYou will, or youâll have Trinity do it?â
Z bursts out laughing.
Rockâs jaw works, but a smile is hovering at the corners of his mouth. I lean over and brush a kiss against his cheek. His hand locks around my wrist, pulling me closer. âGive me a real kiss, baby,â he says.
âPlease donât,â Z begs, reminding me that we have an audience.
Rock shoots him a dirty look and stands, yanking me against his chest. âYou stopping home first?â
âYes. I need to change.â I wave my free hand that isnât trapped between our bodies over my jeans and sweatshirt.
He turns and tucks me against his side to walk me out. âYou need to grab anything from upstairs?â
âNo, Iâm good.â
He sighs in disapproval.
âWhy are you trying to get meââ
Oh.
The carnal look on his face canât really be ignored. Especially when he pushes me inside the champagne room.
âHeyââ I protest, but itâs quickly cut off by his mouth on mine.
Even though itâs indirectly my fault she has to go, Iâm not ready for Hope to leave. Itâs ridiculous because after she got me so worked up Friday night, we spent a large portion of the weekend in bed.
No matter how many times we fuck, I canât seem to get enough of her. Probably because what we have is so much more than fucking.
If she doesnât need to go upstairs, the champagne room is my next best option. It will definitely be empty this early on a Monday morning. Picking Hope up, I pin her to the wall just inside the door.
âWhat are you doing?â she asks breathlessly against my mouth.
I lean into her neck, inhaling her sweet scent before answering. âWell, Iâm not giving you a lap dance.â I was aiming for light and teasing, but it comes out tense and strangled.
Hopeâs eyes go wide, but her mouth curves in a sexy smile. âWhat if someone walks in?â
âDoll, no one is coming in here.â But to make her feel better, I reach over and flip the lock. To do it, I need to pin her to the wall with my hips. Her head falls back against the wall with a soft thump from the extra friction. I take a second to let my eyes travel over her body. Flushed cheeks, erect nipplesâvisible even through the heavy fabric of her sweatshirt every time she takes a heaving breath.
Damn.
The sight of how turned on she is already has me harder than steel-reinforced concrete and aching with an almost violent need to fuck her.
First, I need to set her down and strip her pants off.
As I release her, she slides down the wall and her eyes flare in surprise. Gripping her hips, I walk/push her to the couch lining one side of the room. Iâm almost frantic trying to figure out which way I want to take her first. Finally, I sit down and pull her to me. My hands go straight for her jeans and begin working them down her legs. She gives me a soft sigh of anticipation and kicks her pants off after I work them past her knees.
âShirt, baby,â I tell her.
It drops to the floor in a soft whoosh of fabric. Her hands immediately go to my shirt next, and my dick jumps. I love that sheâs just as crazed to see me as I am to see her.
I crook a finger at her and free my aching dick from my jeans. Without a word, she plants one knee next to me and steadies herself on my shoulders. Looking into my eyes, she centers herself. âRochlan?â
âYes, doll?â I manage to choke out.
âI love you.â
For some reason, her voice breaks and she seems close to tears. Stroking my hands over her back, I guide her to my cock. âBaby, I love you too. So much.â
Once sheâs perfectly lined up, she sinks down slowly. Hot breath hisses out between her clenched teeth and over my cheek. My hand grips her hip, kneading her soft flesh.
Across the way, the mirror gives me a fantastic view. The graceful lines of her back, the cute little dimples above her perfect ass, her long hair swishing against her pale skin.
âYouâre fucking beautiful.â My hand threads into her hair, pulling her down for a kiss. Wrapping my arms around her tight, I slam my cock up into her. A groan tears out of my throat. âI can see you in the mirror, Hope. See everything. Beautiful.â
She whimpers against my neck and struggles to turn, but I hold her tight. Nowâs not the time for my girl to get shy.
Our skin slaps together, quick and furious. Hopeâs gone. Writhing above me, moaning, squeezing me so fucking tight. Sheâs making little mindless noises as I keep drilling up into her. She stills, a soundless scream on her lips, and I feel my own orgasm boiling through me.
My lips find hers, and her fingers tunnel through my hair, sending shivers up and down my spine.
Iâm not thrilled as I watch her dress a few minutes later. She catches the look on my face, and the corner of her mouth kicks up. âSee, if you hadnât interfered in my business and made me take their case, I could spend the day with you.â
Itâs clear sheâs only teasing, but her words still make me pause.
I may be a lot of things, but Iâm not some backwards asshole whoâs going to take a smart, driven woman like Hope and attempt to turn her into my mindless sex slaveâas appealing as that might sound. So no, itâs off to work for her.
âIâve kept you long enough, doll.â
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Filling out the Order to Show Cause, getting it signed by a judge and filed with the court, takes up most of my morning. Iâm feeling very accomplished by the time everything is in place. Teller calls to let me know they are not releasing his grandmother any time soon, so itâs a good thing Iâve gotten the ball rolling.
Adam bounds into my office a little before noon.
âHey. I got called into court this afternoon. Want to take my place at a CLE?â
Iâm woefully short on credits, but the thought of sitting through some boring legal education class all afternoon is very unappealing.
âCome on, your buddy, Judge Oak is one of the lecturers. Itâs already paid for.â
âOh, okay. I need the credits. How much do I owe you?â
He waves his hand in the air. âI just donât want it to go to waste. Starts at one, so you might want to head down now.â
Dammit.
Packing up my stuff, I grab a granola bar and head downtown. Miraculously, I find a parking spot right in front of the building where the class is. The woman in charge of checking us in hassles me a bit as I try to explain Iâm taking Adamâs place. Judge Oak comes over to say hello and smooths things over for me.
âThank you, Damon.â
âNo problem. Good to see you.â
âIs Mara coming?â It would be nice to be able to sit with someone I know.
He chuckles and shakes his head. âNo. She refuses to come to my lectures any more.â
Crap.
Feeling supremely awkward and out of place, I grab a seat near the back of the small classroom. Too late, I realize itâs a panel of four lecturers. Theyâve got Judge Oak, a public defender, a district attorney from Empire County, and a criminal defense attorney who is in private practice. My eyes almost bug out of my head when I see who the defense attorney is. Tony Cain. Former Slater County District Attorney. The guy I went up against when I represented Rock in his last drug possession case. The case where he humiliated me in court by asking to have another lawyer represent him.
